Under local anesthesia, a small depression is created in the muscle of cheek region. This is done through the inside of the mouth without external scars. A natural dimple is usually formed when there is a small defect in the cheek
musculature (most often the buccinator muscle). The skin overlying this small
defect is stuck down to the underlying connective tissue and creates a dimple
in the skin with facial animation (smiling).
Q. Who is a candidate for Dimple Creation surgery ?
Patients with the following conditions are considered to be complex or high risk cases and will not be qualified for Dimple Creation surgery :
Bleeding Disorders
Patients with underlying severe medical problems that required additional treatment and investigation including, but not limited to HIV and uncontrolled diabetes
The surgery
Surgery is done in the clinic, under local anesthesia on an outpatient basis, and takes less than 45 minutes to finish. You will be awake and comfortable during the
entire dimple surgery process. Special arrangements can be made if you
would rather be asleep for the dimple creation surgery. The dimple surgery
takes about 20 minutes to perform and you can go home right away
after the procedure.
Cleft Chin and Dimples surgery doesn't require extensive incisions; thus you can expect lower risk of infection, less pain and discomfort, reduced risks of complications and rapid recovery time. You may or may not experience slight discomfort for a few hours after the anesthesia wears off.
Dimple creation surgery can be done on any type or size cheek. You can decide
where the dimples will be, or you can have our surgeon decide with you where
the most optimal place for the dimples should be on your face.
Post surgery and recovery
For Cleft chin construction, Dr. Alonzo will put a facial bandage on the operated area, which you will be removed on the 3rd day. Stitches removal is on the 7th day. For Dimple construction, Dr. Alonzo will put small facial bandage on the operated area. Dissolvable sutures will be used so you don't need to go back to the clinic for its removal. While you're recuperating at home, Dr. Alonzo will advise you to call the clinic from time to time to check your healing progress.
You can go back to work the next day or after a day of rest following your surgery, but avoid strenuous activities like contact sports and exercise that can injure your face. Healing period is 7 to 10 days. After a few weeks, you will notice that the operated area is already taking shape; the dimples or the cleft chin is becoming more apparent and feels natural like you are born with it. Final results can be seen after a month
Risks and complications
Dimple creation surgery is safe and effective, but also potentially fully
reversible. There are minimal complication with dimple formation aside from
a little bit of swelling and bruising. You should be able to resume your normal
activities the following day. You will take antibiotics for only a couple of days
after your dimple creation surgery.
